    Regarding the magnet, I wouldn't trust a regular refrigerator magnet to erase the stripe; I would use a good-sized neodymium magnet, one that you really have to pry off from a piece of metal, and rub it right on the stripe; today's magnetic stripes are designed to be difficult to erase by accident.
